Terrainaholic on YouTube
The internet is a wonderful thing. I spotted some great videos on YouTube the other day from Terrainaholic. He has two videos (>10 min each) that detail how he makes 6mm buildings for epic scale games. This scale would also work well for Battletech and even Mechwarrior AoD.

Not everyone out there has such an amazing workshop. I’m definately jealous. I’m not sure exactly how he gets his pink foam sheets so thin but the final outcome makes me want to give it a try for some of my 3D terrain.
With a lot of patience I think these could work very well on both 2″ hexes and standard map sheets. Hope this gives you some inspiration for you own terrain projects.

It sounds like in the first video he mentions something about using a saw to cut something. I was assuming the pink foam. I have seen this guys videos on youtube before. I liked his battletech board he was working on awhile back, also his tyranid terrain. Watching this stuff makes me want to somehow make epic 40k merge into btech rules, and have battletech vs epic @_@. Most those models are similar scale.

Actually got me wondering who’s technology is better. I give the BTech universe the edge in vehicles/mechs, and then the warhammer universe the extreme edge in infantry combat, they would wipe the floor with infantry in BTech.
He said he used his saw to cut the thin floor pieces. I think he was referring to his band saw that he used during video Part 1 at the 4 minute mark. Alternatively, if you have hot wire foam cutting tools, you can set up a wire or strait tool horizontally over an inclined surface and let a block of foam slide down for a nice even cut. Use trial and error to get the right thickness as different temperatures and inclines will melt different amounts. Also, it helps if you brace the wire or tool at both ends as close to the block as you can easily manage to reduce bending (and thus slight differences).
